Hi.
This is day zero of my ’37 Hard Truths About Starting a Business’ series.
I know I’m a bit late starting this after my 37th birthday (nearly 2 months), but here’s lesson one already: Better late than never. When I founded my tech company Untrite and then Oishya, our Japanese knife brand, I learned something crucial – consistency is the key.
Whenever I was consistently posting or reaching out and following up with the brand ambassadors for oishya and prospects for untrite – more good things were happening. Even if it was a rejection, at least I knew where I stood and could move on.
It’s true whenever you’re trying to build a skill, an audience, reputation or a business.
You MUST be persistent and consistent. Every. Single. Day. The businesses that thrive aren’t necessarily the ones with the best ideas – they’re the ones that consistently execute. That’s how you win over your competition (which you shouldn’t obsess with, anyway – but that’s a lesson for another time).
You need to get in front of your potential customers relentlessly. Talk about your brand and your products—even if they don’t exist yet! Explain why they’re needed, why YOU’RE the right person to build them, and why people should trust you.
Building trust happens through consistency. One viral moment won’t sustain your business – but showing up for your audience day after day will.
Over the next 37 days, I’ll share the unfiltered truths I wish someone had told me before I started. Follow along if you’re ready for the raw, unpolished reality of entrepreneurship. First proper lesson drops tomorrow.
