Perfection is the enemy of done – and it’s killing your progress.
When I started my businesses, I spent way too much time perfecting things that didn’t matter. Company website, branding, messaging, business cards – meanwhile, I should have been reaching out to potential clients and closing deals. Cashflow is always the king.
This perfectionist trap destroys more businesses than bad ideas ever will.
Now, if I’m not at least a little embarrassed by what I’m shipping – whether it’s this reel or my articles – it means I spent too much time on it. I’ve posted reels where only after clicking upload I spotted terrible pronunciation or my shiny face. I used to kill myself over those imperfections, but then I wasn’t showing anything to the world.
Reid Hoffman said it best – “If you’re not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late.”
There’s a difference between being a perfectionist and doing lazy work. I’m not praising sloppy, half-baked execution. I’m saying ship it when you’re feeling slightly embarrassed. Show your face and share what you believe in.
Perfection doesn’t exist. It’s a moving target that keeps you stuck forever. While you’re tweaking pixels, your competitors are shipping, getting feedback, and improving.
The world will never know about your “masterpiece” if you keep it hidden because it’s “not ready yet.” You’re not protecting your reputation – you’re destroying your chances.
Done creates opportunities. Done gets feedback. Done builds momentum. Perfect sits in a folder accumulating digital dust.
And honestly? It feels fucking great waking up to new orders that came in while I was sleeping, or LinkedIn messages from people who want to explore opportunities.
Stop waiting for the right moment. Start messy, improve quickly, and let the market teach you what actually matters.
