Don’t talk about yourself.
Each media channel, to be successful, needs to have a content that is either:
- entertaining
- inspiring or
- educational.
They don’t need to tick all of the above, sometimes it’s just dominance of one trait with an occasional other one (inspirational or educational posts) (e.g. Cassie who parodies famous models). Whatever you decide your style to be, have some consistency.
When you focus on talking about yourself, publishing random photos without any specific context or a corresponding thought – your profile won’t grow. And that’s fine, as long as you want to treat your profile purely as a public journal, for your own purposes (or making it easier for you to share your whearabouts with your close ones).
I know what you may be thinking – how dare she giving me advice about this, if she herself has only 377 subscribers here. That’s because I don’t practice what I preach. But I know it’s working. I analyse and read how other successful people do it. When you look at the people’s profiles you follow – you’ll go either at least one of the reasons listed above. Then you build a bond with them. You feel like you ‘know’ them and if they eventually offer a product or service, you’re more likely to buy.
People bond and buy not from companies, but other people (or, in case of larger companies with a long history, rather than individual influences – Hero Journey’s stories well told, that involve people).
But that’s not the only reason why you could share your thoughts – you can do so to find your tribe, to build likeminded community who will support you in your quest for greatness. Each of you have a lot of value to give, you can inspire, educate or entertain in your own unique way.
